*正にニューウエイブど真ん中の１９８０年にその総本部英国ラフトレードから出されたたった一枚のヤング・マーブル・ジャイアンツの公式アルバムです。日本では徳間ジャパンより８１年に最初のラフトレード配給で出されました。英国盤が高かったので出たぞーとパッと飛びついた私。既にバンドをガンガンやってた時期でしたがこれ聴いたら、あーやられたーと。当時少なくともＮＷを意識してやっていた連中は何か新しいことかましたいなと目をぎょろぎょろさせてた時でそんな中ほけーと間隙をズキっと突いてこんな音が出てきたのです。ＮＷの何が面白かったかと言ってそれまででは思っていても出来なかった音楽の方法が結果はどうであれやれちゃって聴衆も聴いてやろうとゆう空気が出来たことかもしれん。さてこのジャイアンツ、そもそもは７６年、英国カーディフのトゥルー・ウィールとゆうバンドにイーノ好き（やっぱし）のアリソン嬢、スチュワートとフィリップのモクスハム兄弟が加入したのが始まり。それが解散してしばしグダグダした後３人でジャイアンツ結成、出演してたコーヒーバーのオムニバスアルバムに入ってた曲がラフトレードの目に止まってこの盤を製作とゆう次第であります。その音楽、ドラム担当はニクソンちゃんと名前が付いた悲しいほど情けない音のリズムボックス、その上を正に人数分しか音が無いとこへここはどこ私は誰のアリソン嬢の歌が乗ると、それだけです。強烈なものが一つも無いとこが強烈でして、俺もまねして曲作ったけどそれは今聴くととんでもなく恥ずかしいけど、このジャイアンツは今聴いてもあの時と同じスリルが味わえるす。あたりまえっす。一番好きなのがこりゃシングルだなと勝手に決めてるサラダ・デイズと一番派手でパンク[(^o^)]なブラン・ニュー・デイズ、ともに２分ちょっと。まあそれだけでなくこんだけそっけないのにアルバム一枚分あっとゆうまに聴けちゃう。これ聴いて日本人にはこうゆう音楽がピッタシだと確信、後で２人だけでやろうとやれちゃうだろうと決意したのもこれのおかげ、そんな訳で凄い思い出があるアルバムです。ジャイアンツさん、これをリリース後注目されてＢＢＣに出たりアメリカツアー敢行。帰国後にアリソン嬢が病に倒れてあっけなく解散、モクスハム兄弟はジストを結成と相成った訳ですけど、一枚だけっちゅうのも実にらしくて、またこれは一枚だけ出す音楽かもしれんと大切にこれを今でも聴いてるんですけどみなさんも是非。 (マスター)2004.1.14 |
