*ジャメイカのぶっ飛びプロデューサー、リー・ペリー伯の７６年から７７年にかけてのお仕事をピックアップしたコンピです。この時期は正に油が乗り切ってる時でありまして得意技を次から次へと開発、自分自身の作品も他者へのプロデュースも快作揃い、この盤はお値段もお手頃、代表作も網羅とゆう非常に美味しい一品となっております。まず１曲目はヘプトーンズ。ベテランさん。最初期から活躍のの歌謡レゲエ王者コーラス・グループ。評判とは違って明るい曲で拍子抜けいたすかも。いややっぱ暗いかな。明るくて暗いちゅう訳のわからん状態になってしまうのがペリーさんの特徴なんです。次は「ポリスとこそ泥」、クラッシュのカバーでお馴染みの曲。これがオリジナルなのだ。クラッシュの直球青春ヴァージョンに比べてこちらは当然だけど剛球レゲです。低重心アイアンだ。これをそのまままねしてもあい無くあのアレンジにしたクラッシュの判断は実に正しいぞ。権力とそれに逆らうものの戦いは大昔から未来まで永劫に続くちゅう歌。歌詞にも惹かれたのだと思う。パンクとレゲは基本思想が一致してこの頃常にシンクロ、共闘及びライバルとして刺激しあってたのだ。４曲目になりペリーさん本人が登場。最高傑作の一つロースト・フィッシュ＆コーンブレッドの冒頭の曲を。ぶっ飛びファンクレゲ。常人を超えたこうゆう感じがたまらんで私はペリーさんにはまった。５曲目はプロデュース作として最高じゃないかと思っておりますマックス・ロミオのウォー・イン・ア・バビロン。タイトルと裏腹にまあ何とほけほけした感じで(^0^)。その裏で空間を捻じ曲げてるのがペリーさん。６曲目はジャー・ライオンとゆうこれはＤＪさん。これはかなり怖いっす。いきなりうおーとか叫ぶし。初めてペリー伯のスーパーエイプＬＰが日本で発売された時、プレスミスでＢ面が全部この人の作品になっていた思い出あり。何じゃこりゃ怖いようって売っちゃったんですけど今考えると惜しいことしたな。イントロのピアニカのフレーズ、わし、自分の曲でパクっちまいました。などなどベストと言いましてもそれぞれ単独で買うには大変な曲もありで話は聞いてても知らない人のもありでかなり重宝しちゃってます。それにしてもペリーさん、知らない間に随分人気者。ＣＤが英米とも沢山出てる。ジェメイカのアントニオ猪木だもんなあ。時代は狂気をバカを求めてるのか。その中から最初に買うとするとリターン・オブ・スーパー・エイプ、ロースト・フィッシュ＆コーンブレッド、コンゴスのハート・オブ・ザ・コンゴス、そして暗いだけじゃないよのこの盤が良いんではないかと思う次第であります。 (マスター)04.1.21 |
