*プロデュースをがっちりやったらものすごーくうまくはまっちゃってなんちゅうか本人の世界を通り越してビッグなアルバムになってしまったってのが稀にあったりしてこれはそんなアルバムです。ソロとして出発してそれまでの３作は己製作、バックも己演奏中心でやって来たスティーブさん機が熟したとみたかケンタッキーが食べたくなったかアメリカへ一っ飛びラス・タイトルマンを共同プロデューサーに迎えてミュージシャンもＮＹの精鋭を集め、ゲストも沢山呼んでとおいおい人柄が変わってしまったのの４作目。ばっちり成功ハイアー・ラブが大ヒット、ＭＴＶでも大変身のクリップだわ。７０年後半に行くとこまで行って完成したロック。パンクの登場、デジタル化の波と嵐の中で一休止したかに見えましたが新機材の取り扱いを現場が完全吸収しちまったらこっちのもの、そのノウハウを生かしてさらに物凄いものを作れるのだなあと聴いてるこっちもびっくり。びっくりと言えばラスさんと言えばワーナーブラザースリプリーズ、バーバンクサウンドの中心さんでいつのまにこんな時代ピッタシハイソな音像を作れるようになったのだ。まったくもって曲も極上、演奏も極上、ゲストだってチャカカーンさんのいかにもチャカってるコーラス、ＪＴさんのいかにもＪＴさんのコーラス等これまた極上、スティーブさん必殺のピヨーちゅうシンセもちゃんとある、どっか最後詰めの甘い良さもちゃんとちゃんとでまったく文句付ける余地の無い最高アルバムなのです。文句があるとすれば文句付ける余地が無いほど立派に作れちゃったことで、これじゃ何かスティーブさんぽく無いぞとゆう漠然とした不満が出たりするファン心理。売れたのは嬉しいけど売れるなよなあみたいな[(^o^)]。スティーブ・フェローンのドラムがいかにもでナウな響きなのもムカついたりして。かっこいいけど。悔しいことに。ははは。本人さんも何か居心地の悪さ感じたみたいで次作ではまたまたパーソナルな響きのものに帰ったりして。それも含めてキャリアの中でこれくらい炸裂スパーキンしてるのがあってもいいかな。あると無いとじゃ大違いだし。 (マスター)2004/1/23 |
