*ついにミック・テイラーがやめてしまったストーンズ、来るべき"継続”ストーンズにふさわしいギタリスト探求行脚のさなか録音されたアルバムがこれです。イッツ・オンリー〜セッションを通じてロン・ウッドにラブ・コールを送ったものの義理人情ミュージシャンの彼にフェイセズがあるからと辞退されてここでは彼はまだ全面参加では無し、キャンド・ヒートのハーヴィー・マンデルとあの”キャッチ・ザ・ファイアー”ウエイン・パーキンスがギターで助っ人参加です。新メンバーに候補に上がった中にはウイルコ・ジョンソンやライ・クーダー、クリス・スペディング、ミック・ロンソン他がいたようでこれはこれでどきどきしちゃうよ俺。さてこのアルバム、テーマはファンクとレゲとサザン・ソウルか。それにそってこれまでに比べてアレンジが随分すっきりしてタイトさ満点。悪意の部分が抜けて好々爺の道に向かって無垢な表情がかわいいな。神様にやっと勘弁して貰って人間になれました。強烈なファンク・ビートに貢献はパーカッションのオリー・Ｅ・ブラウンさん、ペコポンタイコが気持ち良いなあ。ホット・スタッフはオハイオ・プレーヤーズを意識したそうだとか。なるほどー。レゲはもうこの頃キースさんが夢中だったようでチェリ・オ・ベイベはもう楽しくてしょうがない様子が手に取るように。オリジナルと瓜二つでファン気質がキューティーじゃわ。ヘイ・ネグリータもレゲだなーとずっと思ってたんですけどロンさんはストーンズでファンクを意識したらしくてそ言われるとそうだなあ。スロウの２曲が強力です。今までと違う優しさ感じるのですけど。皆さんはどうかな。愚か者の涙ではついにやったねミックちゃんのエレピの方がホプキンス氏の生ピより印象に残るフレーズを。プレストン氏の鼻歌がそのまま曲になったようなメロディは良いよ良いよと笑って許してる歯欠け笑顔が見えるようで楽しい。で最後のクレージーママ。曲名もさることながらキース＆ミックだけのギターがこれぞストーンズでやっぱ捨て曲無し。ははは。大好きです。 (マスター)2003.08.3 |
