*ピンク・フロイドのメガ・ヒット・プログレ・アルバム「狂気」をまるごとレゲ・カバーしたアルバムです。イージースターレーベル所属ミュージシャンの総力を結集した力作。私自身９０’ｓ以降のレゲエ・シーンを追っかけていなかったので演奏してる人ほとんど知らないんですけどこれには驚いたわあ。初めは笑いながら聴いていたんですけど次第にマジになっちゃって感動してしまった。フロイドのメンバーが聴いたらやっぱ顔青くなったりして。レゲっちゅうのは発生した時点から欧米ヒットのカバーは大得意、あの天下無敵の快感リズムかぶせて別物命を吹き込んできました。その伝統があるけん、これも半端じゃありません。メインの構成、メロディなどは本家とまったく同じながら効果音部分にはことごとくリズムをかぶせてさらにダブ処理、トゥースティングかませてボケーとしながら聴くしかなかったピロリロリン部分も踊りながら聴けちゃいます。シーンから離れてたんでどんなに変わっているかなあと思ったんですけどある意味レゲ界も成熟したんだなあ、ここで基本となってるのは７０’ｓ８０’ｓレゲとまったく変わりなし。タイムはリー・ペリー・マナー、他ではレボリューショナリーズなどのダブ最盛期の音を彷彿とさせてくれます。攻撃的なとこはとれて余裕の楽しさだ。あのトタン屋根スタジオ思い出すことも無くなったな。ビルできっと作ってるんだね。大抵の人は入手したしましたらマネー聴いてみると思うんですけど、それがまた原曲とほぼ同じ。ははは。と思っちゃうくらいレゲがはまってる。さらにこのアルバムってああメロディ良かったんだなあって。歌だけじゃなくサックスのフレーズ、スキャットも含めて再認識です。際物じゃないよ。７０年代に魔法の鍋に入れてたやつが煮込まれて煮込まれてボワワーンと我々の前に。おまけにはダブ・カバーしたやつのさらにダブ・ヴァージョンが入ってます。これもまたレゲのお約束。ダブってＢ面芸術だからなー。これ聴いて怒っちゃうフロイド・ファンとはお友達になりたくなかったりして。 (マスター)2003.08.05 |
